Picture Gallery: A Day with the Children

What's a day like for the kids?

The new orphanage has modern, clean bathrooms.  Of course, 24 kids getting ready for school is a bit hectic as you might imagine, but they always seem to get to school on time.  After breakfast, the next step is getting to school which is too far away for the children to reach by walking.  The  transport requires a few trips by motorbike and you can see it's a challenge, but it's fun too.

Doun, who works at the restaurant and at NCCLA , ferries five kids every morning to their school.

The school awaits the arrival of the NCCLA  kids.

After an exciting trip to school the children are ready to enter classes for the remainder of the morning.  Below some of them pose in their school uniforms for a picture.  Below, they all assemble before school for a picture.

Time to study -- pay attention kids!

The afternoon is filled with study, English lessons, computer studies, and Khmer dance lessons.  Below Jasmine and Christina help each other in study.

Part of the afternoon sometimes includes art.  Below the kids are really engrossed while expressing their ideas in an artistic expression.

Kelly creates an octopus expressing love.

Recently four computers were donated to NCCLA .  Doors to future jobs will be open by knowledge in English and computers, thus,  afternoon classes center around these subjects.  Below the kids are really excited on the first day of their computer studies.

The children get donated study and work packs in the orphanage's class room.

Finally, the children have a happy dinner in Neth and Thawee's restaurant, the Veiyo Tonle.

What's a night like for the kids?

Part of the children's afternoon activities include Khmer Traditional Dance.  Twice a week they perform in Neth's restaurant (on nights that precede no-school days).   The children love doing these dances and it's usually the highpoint of the week for them.  They all love the rich costumes that they get to wear.

What's a weekend or holiday like for the kids?

Sometimes the children are taken on weekend and holiday excursions.  One of their favorite trips is to the beautiful Cambodian beaches.  Recently they visited the great temples at the Angkor Wat complex.   Below, you can see their enthusiasm.
